Tuna fish and its derivatives, such as Muxama and Estupeta present themselves unavoidably as a reference to the town Vila Real de Santo António. A local gastronomic tradition highly values & appreciates both delicacies for their characteristic sensory attributes. The canning industry has played a decisive role, since it represented the economic development of the region. There used to be more than 20 factories exclusively dedicated to the conservation of tuna fish in the town until the mid-90s. Currently, there are only two factories that preserve this ancient tradition. Both present no concern for the communication and image of the products. This work aims to create a unifying brand for all this tradition and experience, commercially channeling the products for today’s demanding market.
